Avis suffered a leak of its customers' personal data
The American car rental company Avis informed several of its customers that their personal data has been compromised due to a cyber attack.
The exposed data included full names, dates of birth, addresses email, phone numbers, credit card details and, of particular concern, driver's license numbers.
This information is enough to put customers at risk of identity theft or financial fraud.
In August, the company identified a unauthorized access to one of your business applications. In a notification letter about the data breach, filed with the California Attorney General's Office, the company stated:
“Upon learning of the incident, we took immediate action.”
This led to an investigation in conjunction with security and law enforcement specialists.
Avis, so far, has not provided specific details about how cybercriminals gained access to your clients' personal information.
However, the central question What many cybersecurity experts consider is how a company the size of Avis, with revenues of around $12 billion in 2023, allowed this very sensitive information to remain vulnerable.
After discovering the breach of security, the company notified affected customers about the incident last week and recommended that they take a series of countermeasures to protect themselves from identity theft and fraud.
These measures include monitoring their accounts banking, changing passwords on accounts related to your transactions, and being able to place fraud alerts on your credit reports.
